Shot Peening
Shot peening is the best method available to lengthen the fatigue life of metal. Cracks propagate from the surface down; when that surface is stretched, cracks will open more readily. Shot Peening uses the impact of a medium (e.g., steel shot) propelled at controlled intensity to compress the surface of metal. When a surface is squeezed together, cracks will not open as readily, even when the part itself is stressed.
Automatic Equipment
ASC's use of automatic equipment gives us the means of producing and reproducing:
Calibrated instruments and controls (traceable to NIST standards) give us the ability to meet stringent engineering requirements on every run, for every job.
Manual Peening
Manual Peening is an often overlooked but essential skill in the Shot Peening world. At times, it is the only method that can be used to meet engineering requirements. Manual Peening can only be performed successfully and effectively by Qualified Shot Peening Technicians. All of our Shot Peening personnel are graduates of ASC’s exhaustive, industry-approved training program, and are monitored, retrained and retested at regular intervals.
Peen Forming
This is an indispensable tool for the inducement or removal of contour. Parts that must be shaped or flattened are almost always in tension from the machining process. This means that each part will deform differently when peened. Only the most experienced operators will be able to provide consistent results. We at ASC have been solving problems by Peen Forming for over 40 years.
Flap Peening
Using 3M™ Corporation’s patented technology allows a trained operator to peen in a confined area without disturbing adjacent finished surfaces. This is a valuable tool that ASC can use to provide you with solutions to your rework and repair problems.
